About the Bangladesh Relief Fund

The Bangladesh Relief Fund is an Ohio not-for-profit corporation (Tax ID #: 20-1527760, IRS Ruling) organized to raise and distribute funds for poverty alleviation in Bangladesh. It was formed by Mr. Muhit Rahman, an expatriate Bangladeshi American in August, 2004 in response to the devastating floods of 2004. Mr. Rahman is being advised by his longtime friend, Ms. Sally Bachman, a journalist living in Northern California.

Muhit Rahman: Mr. Rahman (48) grew up in Bangladesh and came to the US in 1975 with an undergraduate scholarship from Yale University. He received his B.S. in Engineering in 1979 and worked as an engineer in Los Angeles until 1987. In 1987 he received his MBA from UCLA and switched careers to investment banking. Mr. Rahman is currently a managing director with Washington & Congress Advisors in Boston and telecommutes from his home in Cincinnati, Ohio where he lives with his wife and three children.

Sarah L. Bachman: Ms. Bachman grew up in Portland, Oregon, and also graduated from Yale University in 1979 with a B.A in English literature. In 1977-78, she worked for a Bangladeshi NGO and began working as a journalist writing about economic development, Bangladesh, child labor and related topics. She has written for the AP and the San Jose Mercury News and other newspapers, and magazines such as U.S. News & World Report and the LA Times Magazine. Ms. Bachman currently lives in La Honda, California, and works as Assistant Director and Chief Reporter for Child Labor & the Global Village: Photography for Social Change.
