I am generally happy with the progress that I was able to make in the 19 days that I spent in Bangladesh. I have committed almost $100,000 in funds on seven projects (some with sub-projects) involving totally different groups of people. Over time, I expect these projects to directly employ almost 800 individuals - although a great many of those will be part time affairs. It is too early to extend the numbers further - I don’t want to count the chickens before they are hatched!
The way I look at it, I sowed a variety of seeds on a variety of soils. A lot of work and follow-up will determine which seeds will ultimately grow into useful crops. Some, I am sure, might fail to even germinate and others may never reach maturity. And some, I am certain, will flourish! But in each case, the experience will help us with the next planting.
I am planning to return to Bangladesh in June/July to follow-through. Meanwhile, e-mail and telephones will have to do!
Thank you all for contributing to the Bangladesh Relief Fund. In accordance with my promise to you, all my expenses and overhead are being funded by me alone. Your funds are doing God’s work. May 2005 be a year of good health and prosperity for you.
